Why Do I Need a White Card in Queensland?

If you are starting work in construction, you will be told you need a White Card before you can step on site. It is not just paperwork - it is a legal requirement designed to keep you and everyone around you safe.

It is the law

Under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld), anyone carrying out construction work must have completed general construction induction training. The White Card (unit CPCWHS1001) is the evidence that you have. Without it, you cannot legally work on a construction site, and a builder who lets you on without one is breaching their duty of care.

Who needs one?

• Tradespeople - carpenters, electricians, plumbers, concreters, painters
• Labourers and apprentices entering a site for the first time
• Site supervisors and managers
• Delivery drivers and contractors who access the work area

What the training gives you

Beyond compliance, the course teaches you to identify common site hazards, understand WHS duties, use the hierarchy of control, communicate risks and respond to incidents. It is the safety foundation every construction role is built on.
