White Card rules are simple once you separate the official requirements from advertising claims. These are the questions Brisbane learners most often ask EDB before enrolling.

1. What is a White Card?

A White Card is the common name for a general construction induction training card. It confirms that you have successfully completed CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry through an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO). 2. Who needs one?

People carrying out construction work need general construction induction training. This includes many labourers, tradespeople, apprentices, supervisors and workers who routinely enter operational construction zones as part of their job.

A White Card is foundational induction, not a trade qualification or permission to perform other high-risk work.

3. Can I complete the course online in Queensland?

4. How long does training take?

Plan for a substantial training session rather than a quick card collection. Queensland places minimum delivery requirements on approved providers, and you also need time for assessment and course administration. 5. What should I bring?

Bring the original identification requested by the RTO, your Unique Student Identifier (USI), enclosed footwear and any glasses or hearing aids you need. Ask before the day if you are unsure whether your identification is acceptable.

6. What will I learn?

The course covers basic work health and safety duties, common construction hazards, risk controls, safety signs, personal protective equipment, communication and emergency procedures. Site-specific induction is still required when you start at a workplace.

7. Is a Queensland White Card recognised interstate?

Queensland-issued general construction induction cards are generally recognised throughout Australia. Interstate cards are also recognised in Queensland, subject to the regulator’s rules. Old NSW green cards are a notable exception and are no longer recognised.

8. Does a White Card expire?

It does not have a simple annual expiry date. However, if you completed the training more than two years ago and have not carried out construction work in the preceding two years, you may need to complete training again before returning to construction work. Ask an approved RTO about your circumstances.

9. What if I lose my card?

Contact the RTO that issued it and keep your Statement of Attainment and RTO details. If the original RTO is no longer operating, another Queensland RTO delivering the unit can explain the evidence and declaration needed for replacement.

10. Can I start work as soon as I pass?

Passing the course does not remove every other workplace requirement. You still need the evidence issued through the approved process, employer checks, site induction and any task-specific licences or training. Confirm what your employer or principal contractor requires before arriving on site.
