How to Get a White Card in Brisbane

A Queensland White Card (formally a general construction induction training card) is evidence that you have completed the unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. The process is straightforward, but choosing an approved training provider and arriving prepared will save delays.

1. Choose an approved Registered Training Organisation

White Card training must be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) authorised to deliver the unit in Queensland. Check the provider’s RTO number, course location, what the fee includes and whether the advertised training is genuinely suitable for Queensland requirements - see can I do a White Card online in Queensland? for the red flags to watch for.

2. Enrol before the course date

Queensland RTOs must notify Workplace Health and Safety Queensland of upcoming courses in advance, so a genuine approved provider may not be able to add you at the last minute. Book your place early and complete any enrolment paperwork the provider sends you.

You will generally need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) for nationally recognised training. If you do not already have one, create or locate it before the course.

3. Bring the required identification and clothing

Confirm the exact requirements with your RTO. For an EDB course, plan to bring:

• the required original identification documents
• your USI
• enclosed footwear suitable for practical training
• any glasses or hearing aids you need for learning and assessment

Contact the training team before the day if you need language, literacy or accessibility support. It is much easier to arrange the right assistance in advance.

4. Complete the training and assessment

White Card training covers foundational construction safety rather than a particular trade. Topics include:

• work health and safety responsibilities
• common construction hazards and risk controls
• personal protective equipment
• safety signs and site communication
• incident and emergency procedures

You must participate in the training and successfully complete the required assessment. Queensland’s regulator says general construction induction training must be completed with an approved RTO; see WorkSafe Queensland’s White Card guidance.

5. Keep your training records safe

After you successfully complete the course, the RTO issues the relevant completion evidence and arranges the card in line with Queensland requirements. Keep your Statement of Attainment, the RTO’s details and a copy or photograph of your card. If the card is later lost or damaged, the issuing RTO is normally your first point of contact.

When might you need to repeat the training?

A White Card is not renewed on a fixed annual cycle. However, Queensland rules treat a person differently if they completed induction training more than two years ago and have not carried out construction work during the preceding two years. If that applies to you, check with an approved RTO before returning to site.
