White Card

How Long Does It Take to Get a White Card in Queensland?

9 June 2025 · Justine Barber · 1 min read

The good news is that getting a White Card in Queensland is quick. The training itself takes a single day, and you can be cleared to work on site almost immediately after you pass.

The course

The White Card course (unit CPCWHS1001) runs for around six hours in one day, including the assessment and scheduled breaks. It is delivered face-to-face in Queensland, except for people who live more than 100 km from their nearest RTO.

When can I start work?

Once you pass the assessment, you receive your Statement of Attainment the same day. That document is what allows you to legally start construction work straight away - you do not have to wait for the plastic card to arrive. The physical White Card is then posted to you, usually within about two weeks.

What you need to bring

  • Valid photo identification
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Enclosed footwear and comfortable clothing
  • Enough English to follow instructions and complete the assessment

What the course covers

  1. WHS legislation - the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulation 2011
  2. Identifying common construction hazards
  3. Risk control using the hierarchy of control
  4. Health and safety communication and incident reporting
  5. Correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

In short: one day of training, same-day clearance to work, and your card in the mail shortly after.
