Are There Different Types of Forklift Licences for Different Forklifts?
Not every forklift needs the same licence. Here is the difference between the LF and LO high-risk work licences and which one you need.

Yes - the type of forklift you operate determines the licence you need. In Australia, forklift licensing falls under the High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) system, and there are two main classes.
LF - Forklift licence
The LF class covers standard counterbalance forklifts - the common warehouse and yard forklift with forks at the front and a counterweight at the rear. This is the licence most people mean when they say “forklift ticket”.
LO - Order-picking forklift licence
The LO class covers order-picking forklifts, where the operator is raised with the load to pick stock from height. It is a separate licence because the machine handles very differently and is common in high-bay warehouses.
Which do you need?
- Driving a standard counterbalance forklift - you need the LF licence
- Operating a raised order-picker - you need the LO licence
- Doing both - many operators hold both LF and LO
