What it costs
Career Start subsidises the Certificate III traineeship and the trainee pays a co-contribution fee. As their employer, you can pay that fee on their behalf. The training provider can't pay it for them.

Who can be a trainee
For the Certificate III traineeship to be funded under Career Start, your trainee needs to meet the Queensland Government criteria. In short:
- They are employed by you in Queensland under a training contract registered with DTET.
- They haven't already completed 2 funded apprenticeships or traineeships in the last 10 years.
- If they are from overseas, they hold a relevant work visa.
Eligibility is set by the Queensland Government and confirmed at enrolment.

Who pays the co-contribution fee?
The trainee is responsible for the co-contribution fee, currently $808 for a traineeship or $323.20 at the concession rate. As their employer, you can pay it on their behalf. The training provider can't pay it for them.
Can I put existing staff through the Certificate III traineeship?
Yes. Existing staff can do the traineeship with you as their employer. Recognition of prior learning (RPL) means they aren't retrained on skills they already have.
How long does the Certificate III traineeship take?
A minimum of 12 months, and up to 24 months.
Where does the training happen?
At your workplace. Training and assessment are delivered on-site, using your equipment and your processes.
Who handles the traineeship paperwork?
We do. Every Queensland traineeship needs an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider, and we organise that for you. They prepare the training contract for you and your trainee to sign, then lodge it with DTET for registration.
Does payroll tax apply to a trainee's wages?
To assist employers in accommodating a traineeship, Queensland has payroll tax arrangements for apprentice and trainee wages. Whether they apply depends on your business and your trainee, and conditions apply. Check the Queensland Revenue Office website or talk to your accountant.
What if someone isn't eligible for funding?
They can still complete the Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations without government funding. The fee without funding is $3,000.
