Forklift Licence

What is the Law?

  • Be licensed and competent to operate that particular forklift.
  • Follow safe operating procedures including following the traffic management rules at your workplace.

What Type of Licence Do I Need to Operate a Forklift?

There are two classes of licence needed for forklift related work in Brisbane and Queensland.
Forklift Licence Training Course
Forklift truck – LF (TLILIC0003)

The LF high risk work licence class allows you to use forklift trucks in Brisbane but does not include order-picking forklift trucks (see below).

A forklift truck is a powered industrial truck equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage which has a pair of fork arms attached (that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground) or other load holding attachment.

Order-picking forklift truck – LO (TLILIC0004)

To operate an order-picking forklift truck you need an LO high risk work licence.

An order-picking forklift truck has the operator’s control as part of the load carriage/lifting media and lifts with it. Order-picking forklift trucks are generally referred to as “stock pickers”. They can be fitted with a platform extension for use in furniture warehouses, or can be a turret truck in narrow aisle warehouses.

Legal Requirements – Learn how Forklift Licensing Works in Queensland at EDB Training Services

The Queensland government considers forklift operation as high-risk work thus it becomes illegal for anyone to operate these machines without proper certification. The Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 along with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) regulate forklift licensing.

The requirements to obtain your High Risk Work Licence (LF class) include:

  • The completion of a forklift training course from a registered training organisation (RTO) like EDB Training Services.
  • The successful completion of both written theory tests and practical driving exams.
  • The application process for WHSQ involves sending your documents through Australia Post with an AS1 form and Statement of Attainment and identification and fee payment.

Our staff will guide you through the entire process beginning with enrollment and ending with application submission to guarantee your documents are correct and your license gets processed swiftly.

Why Adhering to Regulations Matters

Forklift accidents result in hundreds of workplace injuries throughout Australia annually while numerous incidents remain avoidable. The strict licensing standards and training requirements and operational protocols exist because of their essential role in workplace safety. Safety regulations serve a fundamental purpose which goes beyond bureaucratic procedures since they protect human life.

Operating a forklift without proper licensure results in severe consequences that include substantial fines and potential criminal prosecution and insurance loss and legal responsibility. The presence of unlicensed forklift operators at business sites creates compliance issues and WorkSafe regulatory violations that may result in penalties.

Our training program meets all legal standards while teaching you proper operating techniques which produce safe workplace practices. The training program provides students with comprehensive understanding about their rights and obligations under
Queensland WHS regulations.

What a Forklift Licence Can Do for Your Career

A forklift license serves both as an essential compliance requirement and as a pathway to improved career stability and versatility. Local employers throughout logistics and warehousing and manufacturing and freight sectors in Tingalpa Murarrie and Hemmant need daily forklift operators who hold proper licenses.

A person holding an LF High Risk Work Licence becomes qualified for employment at:

  • Warehouse and supply chain operations
  • Transport and logistics companies
  • Building and construction sites
  • Factories, depots, and wholesale facilities

A forklift licence offers the most versatile and valuable qualification for anyone seeking full-time employment or casual work through labour hire companies or wanting to establish their own transport or contract service.
