Forklift Licence

What is the Law?

  • Be licensed and competent to operate that particular forklift.
  • Follow safe operating procedures including following the traffic management rules at your workplace.

What Type of Licence Do I Need to Operate a Forklift?

There are two classes of licence needed for forklift related work in Brisbane and Queensland.
Forklift Licence Training Course
Forklift truck – LF (TLILIC0003)

The LF high risk work licence class allows you to use forklift trucks in Brisbane but does not include order-picking forklift trucks (see below).

A forklift truck is a powered industrial truck equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage which has a pair of fork arms attached (that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground) or other load holding attachment.

Order-picking forklift truck – LO (TLILIC0004)

To operate an order-picking forklift truck you need an LO high risk work licence.

An order-picking forklift truck has the operator’s control as part of the load carriage/lifting media and lifts with it. Order-picking forklift trucks are generally referred to as “stock pickers”. They can be fitted with a platform extension for use in furniture warehouses, or can be a turret truck in narrow aisle warehouses.

Queensland Forklift Licence Requirements

The operation of forklifts in Queensland without proper licenses leads to illegal activities which result in both fines and workplace penalties. To work with forklifts according to legal standards you need to obtain a High Risk Work Licence (class LF) issued by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

To get your licence, you must complete training with a registered provider like EDB Training Services. The completion of the course together with assessment success results in receiving a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. After getting your Statement of Attainment you can start your High Risk Work Licence application process through WHSQ. The application process for licensing includes submitting your AS1 form together with the fee payment followed by a visit to the post office for photo identification verification.

Our staff provides individualised assistance to each student for handling the entire process until all required documentation reaches the correct standards to prevent delays during licensing.
