Forklift Licence

What is the Law?

  • Be licensed and competent to operate that particular forklift.
  • Follow safe operating procedures including following the traffic management rules at your workplace.

What Type of Licence Do I Need to Operate a Forklift?

There are two classes of licence needed for forklift related work in Brisbane and Queensland.
Forklift Licence Training Course
Forklift truck – LF (TLILIC0003)

The LF high risk work licence class allows you to use forklift trucks in Brisbane but does not include order-picking forklift trucks (see below).

A forklift truck is a powered industrial truck equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage which has a pair of fork arms attached (that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground) or other load holding attachment.

Order-picking forklift truck – LO (TLILIC0004)

To operate an order-picking forklift truck you need an LO high risk work licence.

An order-picking forklift truck has the operator’s control as part of the load carriage/lifting media and lifts with it. Order-picking forklift trucks are generally referred to as “stock pickers”. They can be fitted with a platform extension for use in furniture warehouses, or can be a turret truck in narrow aisle warehouses.

Learning the Legal Requirements in Queensland with EDB Training Services

Forklift operation has been classified as high-risk work by the state of Queensland. The law requires individuals who operate forklifts to possess a High Risk Work Licence (class LF) that Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) issues. The Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 has established this requirement.

The licensing process includes:

  • Students must finish their forklift training program at EDB Training Services which is an accredited RTO.
  • Students must achieve success in written knowledge tests and practical driving assessments to move forward.
  • Apply for your High Risk Work Licence by submitting your AS1 form with Statement of Attainment and photo ID together with payment to WHSQ.

The EDB Training Services team provides full support from enrollment to certification to prevent any missteps in the licensing process.

Why Forklift Compliance and Safety Matter at EDB Training Services

Forklift equipment operates as a strong tool yet becomes hazardous when users fail to operate it properly. That’s why regulatory compliance is critical. The Work Health and Safety laws of Queensland aim to reduce workplace accidents and risk while all employers must guarantee their forklift operators hold proper training and licenses.

The operation of a forklift by an unlicensed person leads to substantial fines which affect both personal and business entities. Untrained use of forklifts creates dangerous situations that endanger people as well as property while reducing overall operational efficiency. We focus on safety because we understand that passing tests represents only one part of building reliable operator status which protects your future and earns employer trust.

Multiple Career Possibilities with a Forklift Licence

A forklift license allows job seekers to find employment opportunities throughout Brisbane and the surrounding areas. The southeast corridor expansion of warehousing logistics construction and distribution creates ongoing demand for experienced forklift operators. A valid LF license demonstrates to potential employers that you are prepared for work in dangerous settings and hold the required legal clearance. You become more competitive during your search for warehouse jobs and laboring contracts and factory positions and site-based employment.

Getting certified for forklift operation will help you achieve two benefits: career stability and resume value addition in addition to offering you a secure position beyond construction work.
