This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work. At EDB Training Services, we provide fully accredited, face-to-face White Card courses designed to meet legal requirements and equip you with the knowledge to work safely and confidently on any construction site across Queensland and Australia.

Whether you’re just out of school, changing careers, or seeking stable work, our White Card training sets a solid foundation for your future in construction.

What is a Construction Industry White Card And Why It’s Mandatory for Carindale Residents?

The White Card, formally known as the General Construction Induction Card (GCIT), is the compulsory licence that gives you permission to enter and work on registered construction sites. This requirement is enforced under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (QLD) and overseen by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

Without a valid White Card — or its predecessor representations such as the former “blue card” — workers, contractors, or even site visitors are not legally permitted to set foot on active construction sites in Queensland. This applies to everyone involved: labourers, apprentices, tradespeople, machine operators, supervisors, site inspectors, and others requiring site access.

Completing the recognised competency CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry through a registered Training Organisation (RTO) — like EDB Training Services — is the path to earning your White Card. Once the course is completed, you receive a Statement of Attainment and can apply for your official card.

What You Learn in EDB Training Services Construction Industry White Card Course

Our Construction Industry White Card course combines essential safety training, practical site knowledge, and legal compliance — giving you real-world readiness from day one:

  • WHS Legislation & Worker Rights: Understand obligations under Queensland law, including safe work practices, site rules, and legal compliance.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Management: Learn to recognise common construction site risks — slips, trips, falls, manual handling, working at heights, electrical hazards, hazardous materials, machinery, and site traffic.
  • Proper Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Learn how to select, wear, and maintain PPE correctly to minimise risk.
  • Emergency Procedures & Incident Response: Understand how to respond to workplace incidents, accidents, and emergencies — knowing when and how to act to protect yourself and others.
  • Workplace Communication & Reporting: Be equipped to spot risks, flag hazards, report unsafe conditions, and contribute to a safety-first culture.

Delivered in a face-to-face, one-day format, our course includes both theoretical instruction and practical discussion — ensuring you’re fully prepared before you step onto any site.

From new housing developments to retail and warehouse fit-outs, infrastructure upgrades, and civil works — there is strong and consistent demand for legally licensed workers. What is the  Broader Value of a Construction Industry White Card Beyond the Legal Requirement

Legal Compliance and Job Access

The White Card ensures adherence to Queensland safety legislation and gives you unrestricted access to any construction site across the state — and it’s respected nationwide. Sites must check your induction credentials before you begin work, making the card non-negotiable for legal site access.

Safety Mindset and Risk Awareness

Construction remains among the highest-risk industries. With risks like working at heights, electrical work, heavy machinery, hazardous substances, and site hazards, a safety-first approach is critical. The White Card training gives you the knowledge and awareness to protect yourself, co-workers, and the worksite environment.

Career Mobility and Opportunities

With your White Card, you open doors to a range of roles across construction, infrastructure, civil works, trades, labour-hire, apprenticeships, and more. It also enhances your attractiveness to employers, labour-hire agencies, and contractors who prioritise safety compliance and trained workers.

Crucially, the certification is recognised across all Australian states and territories — giving you freedom to relocate while maintaining your credentials and compliance.
